Gjergj Gjokaj (Gjergj Daku)  was a respected Albanian intellectual and community leader from Malësia . He studied Albanian Language and Literature at the University of Belgrade.

During the 1950s and 1960s he worked in education, culture, and Albanian-language media, contributing to the preservation of Albanian identity and language among the Albanian minority in Montenegro. Gjergj Gjokaj became widely known for his role in promoting peace and reconciliation among Albanians, especially through the historic “Besëlidhja e Malësisë” (1970), a movement aimed at ending blood feuds and strengthening unity in the region.

He was respected as a mediator and peacemaker, helping resolve conflicts and encouraging harmony among communities. Gjergj Gjokaj also supported Albanian cultural and national initiatives in the diaspora, particularly among the Albanian community in the United States.

He passed away on 30 November 1997, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most important personalities of Malësia, remembered for his dedication to peace, reconciliation, and the preservation of Albanian culture and unity.
