Mul Delia (Mul Bajraktari) was a respected Albanian highlander leader from the Hoti tribe in Malësia, belonging to the historic Bajraktar family that led the tribe for generations. Raised in a family known for bravery and leadership, he continued the long tradition of defending the honor and freedom of the Albanian highlands.
At a young age he studied at a military school in Austria, graduating with the rank of lieutenant. He later served in the Albanian armed border forces, supporting the idea of a united and independent Albania. During the Italian invasion of Albania in 1939, he fought alongside Albanian nationalists such as Abaz Kupi in the defense of Durrës.
In 1942 he organized a Covenant in Malësia aimed at reconciling blood feuds and preserving peace among the highland tribes. During World War II he refused to collaborate with fascist forces and remained committed to preventing internal conflicts among Albanians.
In 1944 he was arrested by German forces and sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria, where he survived harsh conditions until the end of the war. After learning about the rise of the communist regime in Albania, he remained in political exile, first in Italy and later in Syria, where he continued supporting Albanian nationalist causes.
Mul Delia later died in Damascus, far from his homeland. Years later, after the fall of communism, his remains were returned and reburied in his native Hoti with great honors, recognizing his life of patriotism and service to the Albanian nation.
